Value Delivered by the Profession

A public facility returns value to the community in many ways. The value is separated into two categories: Quantitative and Qualitative.

Some of the obvious quantitative values are the facility’s economic enhancement to the community. By enhancing the sales of existing businesses and promoting future development the facility becomes an economic engine that helps to propel the communities financial success.

Furthermore, a public facility increases the tax basis at all levels. Increased property values, sales, future development, new businesses, employment, excise and almost every tax is increased by the facility’s existence. One of the greatest contributions is that much of the taxes are generated from outside guests and lessens the tax burden on the local taxpayer. Additionally the guests attending events are in the community for a short period, spending additional dollars that would not otherwise been generated.  At the same time, there are little additional costs associated with the guests’ visits relative to the normal services provided to community taxpayers.

In addition to the quantitative or measurable contributions of the facility are the qualitative benefits for which most are built. That of course is to improve the standard of living and enhance the quality of life. These facilities provide a venue for education, entertainment, recreation, culture, politics, sports and as a gathering place for social events. They provide community events through consumer shows that offer additional availability of goods for special interest of all types. Through all these events there are special times, which enhance life and provide lasting priceless memories both professional and personal. More importantly our industry gives a community a stage or forum for commonality of interest and a sharing of “life’s great experiences.”  A place for our children to graduate or go to their first prom, a moment in sport’s history, a place to learn something that could change our lives. It provides a sense of pride that will in some way touch the life of everyone in the community.
